Once again, we have seen the standard and quality of submissions take another leap forward. It has become increasingly difficult to choose 1 entry amongst so many fantastic projects. Now in its 6thyear the NI Innovative Teachers competition is gaining real momentum and is showcasing more and more examples of exciting and innovative work being done in our classrooms.

I am very happy to announce this year’s winner and the Teacher going to Lisbon, Portugal in Marchto compete against teachers from 42 countries at the Microsoft European Education Forum 2012 is:

David Young

The judges’ comments were:

Dr. Victor McNair- University of Ulster and 9 time Innovative Teacher Judge:

The project shows lots of evidence of “Real World” situations through the structures. There are clear links between the work in classroom and people from industry, the community and elsewhere. This is a particularly strong feature of the submission.”

Tom Jackson- Microsoft Programme Manager Northern Ireland:

“I want to congratulate David on this stellar piece of work but more importantly I want to congratulate his students. They have shown that given the opportunity to be innovative and shape their learning individually, amazing things can be done while still meeting the curriculum requirements of the course. I look forward to working with David in the comings weeks to prepare for the European competition and hopefully bring another winner back to Northern Ireland”

I want to congratulate and thank all of the Teachers who entered this year. It gets harder and harder to choose a winner with each passing competition. The level of innovation, commitment and work these teachers are bringing into their classrooms, to their students and wider communities is both inspirational and exciting.
